During this walk we will investigate some of the first signs of spring that we see in nature from budding trees to melting vernal pools. This program is open to the public ages 5 and up.
Wildlife Creatures Collage Sat, March 17th
Time: 2-3pm Place: Camp SaratogaPreregistration required by March 16th: call (518) 450-0321 or email shabanah@wiltonpreserve.org.In celebration of National Wildlife Week, join us at the Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park to discover nature and explore the wilderness. Children will take a walk at our Camp Saratoga parcel in search of wildlife inspiration. Along the way, participants will collect items in nature to create their very own wildlife creature collage. This program is open to the public ages 5 and up.
Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe event for 3/3 Cancelled
With the unusual winter we have had with the lack of any appreciable snowfall, the trails have become too icy and hazardous to hold the event on the 3rd.
We tried three times this year, but Mother Nature just didn't cooperate! Mark your calendars, the next Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe is scheduled for Saturday evening, January 26th, 2013!

Homeschool Series Thurs or Fri, Feb 16/17
Food Chains and Food WebsTime: 10:30 am-12 pm Place: WWPP Office (80 Scout Road) Fee $3 per child.Looking to add some outdoor winter activities to your homeschool curriculum? Bring your kids to Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park to discover the outdoors and learn about the many predators and prey that inhabit WWPP. We will learning about the many food chains and food webs at the various habitats within the preserve. The indoor part of this program will be about 30 minutes long and the outdoor part will be about 40 minutes long. Please dress appropriately for weather and insects. Snowshoes will be available for rental: $5 for nonmembers. If there is no snow, the program will take place without snowshoes. The same program will be held both days to accommodate schedules.To WWPP Office:From the South: Take the I87 North to Exit 15. Go north on Route 50 for about four miles. Make a left onto Scout Road. Go straight for 0.3 miles. Just before the railroad bridge make a right into the parking lot with a barn. Park there and enter into the wooden ranch house on the right.From the North: Take the I87 South to Exit 16. Take a left onto Ballard Road, cross the Northway and make the first right on Edie Road. Continue for 0.6 miles and make a turn at your first left onto Scout Road. Go straight and just after the railroad bridge make a left into the parking lot with a barn. Park there and enter into the wooden ranch house on the right.
Nature Picture Craft Sat, Feb 11
Time: 1-2 pm Place: WWPP Office (80 Scout Road)Preregistration required: call (518) 450-0321 or email shabanah@wiltonpreserve.org by Feb 9th.Join us at the Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park for a great nature craft that will be cherished for years. We will use twigs, pine cones and other materials found in nature to create our picture frames. This will be a great present to give to grandma, dad or your valentine for Valentine’s Day. Our Blanding's presentation today will be cancelled due to a low number of preregistrations. We will plan on rescheduling in the spring.

Join us for a talk with post Master’s student Andrea Chaloux as we talk about her latest findings in the most recent Blanding’s Turtle study in the Wilton area. Learn about the history and the future behind our For the first hour we will hear from Andrea and get our questions answered by our local expert. The second hour, we will take a walk through our wetland parcel (Neilmann) to discover what Blanding’s Turtle habitat would look like in the winter. Snowshoes will be available for rental: $5 for nonmembers. If there is no snow, the program will take place without snowshoes.

In the Health Lodge next to Parking Lot #1 on Scout Road from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. Snowshoes are $5.00 a pair or free for members of Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park.

MLK Day: Winter Scavenger Hunt , Mon Jan 16th
Time: 1pm-2pm Place: Camp SaratogaBring your child out to Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park for an afternoon of outdoor exploration. Children will learn to use their senses to explore the outdoors during winter by working to complete a nature scavenger hunt. This program is designed for children 5 and older. Snowshoes will be available for rental 30 minutes before the program: $5 for nonmembers. If there is no snow, the program will take place without snowshoes.

Well, with no significant snow in the forecast for the next week, we have made the decision to postpone the event to our back-up date of February 4th.NOTE DATE CHANGE! The popular and highly anticipated Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe will take place on Feb 4th 2012! Join us at Camp Saratoga for a nighttime ski or snowshoe under a full moon and 2.5 miles of candlelit trails. We will be starting earlier this year at 6:00 to give families with younger children a chance to come out and enjoy the magic of the Preserve & Park on a moonlit night. Thanks to our sponsor the Wilton Rotary for their support of this wonderful event. Snowshoe rentals will be available from 5:30pm at $5 a pair.

There will be short reports on the Preserve & Park's past year in conservation, environmental education, and in recreation. Everyone is welcome.We are still excited to be celebrating our 15th year as Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park! So even though 2011 is drawing to a close, our anniversary year is still a cause for celebration. Join us for a festive gathering to share in our success not only of this past year, but of the past 15! The Reception will begin at the close of the Annual Meeting, at approximately 7:00 pm. Refreshments will be served.
