Wilton Wildlife Trail Challenge

Help us celebrate our 30th Anniversary by getting out on the trails!

Registration will go live on Wednesday, April 1st

Walk, run, cycle, roll, or trot at least 30 miles on the trails between Earth Day and Memorial Day in celebration of our 30th anniversary!

Get outdoors and get in on the chance to win some great outdoor gear!

All paid registrations get a t-shirt!

Help us reach our fundraising goal of $5,000 - every individual sign-up donates at least $20 to Wilton Wildlife's work in environmental education, getting people outdoors, and supporting our partners' conservation efforts.

After you register, a separate email will be sent to you with information about the challenge, how to log your miles, and some program ideas to get you out on the trails and registering your miles in no time.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! We welcome anyone to join the challenge at any time between April 22 and May 25.

    It will become more challenging to reach the 30-mile goal, but not impossible. All registrants are eligible for an exclusive Trail Challenge shirt through May 11.

  • Your team can be composed of up to 4 people of any age. Each person will log individually and will be eligible for the individual raffle if they meet the 30-mile goal.

    The team will also compete against others. The team with the most miles racked up by the end of the challenge will win a team prize!

  • There is no age requirement. If your family is larger than 4 people, you can make two teams or sign up at the individual rate for the rest of your family members.

    We are always looking to improve, so please provide feedback so we can consider more options next year!

  • For this challenge, you need to pick one activity and see if you can accomplish the 30-mile goal.

  • Cycling is ONLY permitted on the Edie, Kalabus Perry, and Neilmann parcels. For more information on parcel rules and regulations, please visit ‘the lands’ tab on our website, or reach out to info@wiltonpreserve.org.

  • Horseback riding is allowed on any of the trails that are owned by Saratoga County, such as Kalabus-Perry and Edie. Horseback riding is also allowed on one trail owned by the Department of Environmental Conservation, the yellow trail of Old Gick Farm. Horse trailers are allowed to park on Town of Wilton land at Parking Lot #3 on Scout Road. From there, horseback riders can use the south side trail along Scout Road to reach the connector trail that links over to the County Forest Lands off of Edie Road.

  • After you finalize your regisatration, you will be sent an email with a link to an online log and a printable PDF paper log, which you can fill out and bring to the Welcome Cabin at 90 Scout Road, Wilton, NY.

    The Welcome Cabin is open Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

    You will also be able to find copies at the Welcome Cabin or on this webpage.

    Strava users will also have the ability to share their miles via the app.

  • Shirts will be available for pick up beginning at the Wildlife Festival on Sunday, May 31st.

    If you can not make it to the Festival, arrangements can be made to pick up the shirt at the Welcome Cabin.

  • We will announce the winners at the Wildlife Festival. The prizes will be available to pick up that day, or arrangements can be made to pick up at the Welcome Cabin after the Festival.

  • 1) Cyclists yield to hikers, runners, and horses.

    2) Hikers and runners yield to horses.

    3) Dogs should be leashes and under immediate physical control at all times.

    We want everyone to enjoy the trails for many years to come. Please stay on the designated trails to protect the flora and fauna that live there. All trails are carry in and carry out.

  • A live graph will be active on the Wilton Preserve website, in addition to social media updates on our Facebook and Instagram @wiltonpreserve.

  • Fox parcel offers flat trails with perfect viewing spots for the Karner blue butterfly.

    You can also contact Southern Adirondack Independent Living for free loaner equipment to help you along the way, including all-terrain wheelchairs, rollators, adaptive walking sticks, and more.

  • Absolutely, they do! We encourage everyone to join in on the multitude of free public programming we offer. Just remember to register at least one business day in advance!
